The modern entrance to the pyramid was created in the Ninth Century A. The true entrance is above this one. The original passage continues downwards into an unfinished chamber directly under the pyramid. Discussion about the purpose of these chambers and the complexity of the pyramid is varied and ongoing. Serious scientific work on the Great Pyramid began in , when we closed the pyramid for the first time for a full year. It was part of a plan to institute a rotational system at Giza, closing one pyramid a year while leaving the other two open, in order to balance conservation with tourism. During conservation it was found that the interior of the Great Pyramid had a humidity of 85 percent. Most of this was due to tourism, as each person inside the pyramid deposits approximately 20 grams of water through breathing.

While some zinc appears in bronzes dating from the Bronze Age, this was almost certainly an accidental inclusion, although it may foreshadow the complex ternary alloys of the early Iron Age, in which substantial amounts of zinc as well as tin may be found. The malleability of brass depends on the zinc content; brasses that contain more than 45 percent zinc are not workable, either hot or cold.
Such brasses, known as white brasses , are of little industrial importance, though a granulated form is used in brazing soldering ; they also form the basis for certain alloys used in die-casting. The malleable brasses may be further subdivided into those that can be worked cold generally those with less than 40 percent zinc and those with a greater zinc content, which require hot working.

Unique Slide Rule Company Dating a slide rule becomes difficult if a manufacturer did not imprinting a date code or serial number on the stock. Even then, some manufacturers recycled their serial numbers over time, and the stock could have been left on a shelf for a period of time before the slide rule was assembled and shipped. Catalogs are an excellent indication of when a model was produced or discontinued. Sometimes the copyright date in a manual is used to determine the approximate age, but one printing could span several decades.
Dates that a design was registered or patented only suggests an approximate year a model may have been first produced, as the model may have been distributed a year or more before issuance patent pending. The patent may only refer to a certain combination of scales used over a thirty year time on different models. Having contact with the original owner of a slide rule that remembers the year it was purchased helps on determining the age.
Other Slide Rule dates are currently in development. Assistance in this effort will be appreciated. Please refer to the museum library and individual galleries as this page is being built.

Changes in blade steel, blade profile, blade serration, handle material, handle coating material and handle coating color resulted in a large number of knife variations. In the Mark II, with some design changes, was re-introduced and has since had some minor changes in markings and packaging. The categories can be accessed from the active buttons above. For each knife, one or more small thumbnail pictures are included. By clicking on the thumbnail, you can access a high-resolution picture of the knife.
I have tried to give an approximate serial number range for each knife. Note that these ranges are just a guide as often there are overlaps between knife types. I’ve also assigned an alphanumeric code to each of the knife types to aid collectors in describing a particular variation without resorting to a lengthy description. Listed below are over 50 Mark II knife variations, all that I am aware of:
